Winning the league this early is always great when you are competing in the Champions league. This Barca team under Xavi has big problems so I expected us to win the league this year. I do think however under a new manager ( which is a big IF, as Barca haven’t appointed well recentyl) that this Barca team isn’t too far away from being a top side again.
I also however expected us to win La Liga last year, that was very disapoiniting. It was always going to be difficult for Girona to continue their form, they’ve had an amazing season. Atletico Madrid are a mess, therefore I just didn’t seen anyone seriously capable of challenging RM this year. So because of that, I can’t say it’s been an unbelievable La Liga victory but today we showed what is unbelievable about this RM team, their commitment, fighting spirit, yet again another late goal to win us a game. This team really never quits. And having said that, having an 11 points lead is pretty impressive.
I thought the game was entertaining, quite even actually, Lunin after his heroics midweek against City, looked a bit dodgy when it came to dealing with crosses into the box, he wasn’t helped by our defending though. The game wasn’t at its quickest pace in that first half, and I thought it was fairly even going into half time. Both teams were sloppy in possession but after the champions league games this week, it is understandable somewhat. Loved Valvede’s hard but fair challenge at the end of the first half, its the kind of passion RM fans love about him, he doesn’t pull out of challenges. Does suck what happened to De Jong though, he’s 1 of the few Barca players I actually like.
The 2nd half had more space for RM to attack into, Brahim Diaz and Garcia when they came on had so much space to run into, Vinicius also could and should have had another goal to his name tonight after a fantastic pass from Lunin. Was great to see Militao continue with more minutes, and Bellingham to end his goal drought. Was disappointed with Rodrygo’s influence on the game.
Some notes
Why doesn’t La Liga have goal line technology?
I’m not a fan of the Kroos/ Valverde double pivot in midfield, Valverde can play many positions, even CDM, but his best quality is his energy and ability to get around a position, I don’t like to see him have to play a disciplined position, also I feel the combination of those 2 leaves us vulnerable.
After his heroics I won’t be criticising Lunin today
Want to see more of Garcia for the rest of the season, he needs more games, I don’t mind Carlo’s selection of Camavinga at LB for this huge game, but against other teams in La Liga I want to see Garcia starting
Lucas Vasquez was amazing tonight, what a great back up RB he is
Rudiger has to be the best CB in the world right now
Don’t know what Vinicius was complaining to Carlo about?
I’d like to see Militao start next week, give Rudiger a rest before Bayern.
Of course La Liga ins’t officially over but that really should be it done. Let the players rest up now. Well done Real Madrid!
