Hey… so I’m not sure anyone even knew I was away, but even still I feel like making a post to say I’m back. I’m currently traveling the world ( I’m in Mexico city right now) and after we won the league and champions league double last season in an unbelievable season. I just decided to take a break from writing the articles every week, and then I never found the enthusiasm to start writing again… until now.
So yeah, I don’t even know if anyone is even reading this blog, but I shall continue to write and pretend I have readers.
I guess I should add my thoughts of the 2024/25 so far… and I’d say i’m relatively happy overall. We certainly started the season poorly and I’d argue we haven’t really had any great, dominate games this season until probably the Sevilla game recently. But I do think there are reasons for this.
The first being how succesful we were last season. It’s very difficult once you reach the peak of football to maintain that level. It’s incredible that we are finally seeing Man City fall off a cliff after so many years. So I did expect there to be some drop off in form at the start of the season. Usually Real Madrid pick things up in the 2nd half of the season anyway.
The 2nd being the injuries, we’ve had a crazy few years with long term, ACL injuries, Courtois, Alaba, Carvajal, Militao ( twice), not to mention frequent injuries that have lasted up to 1 or 2 months to many players, Camavinga, Mendy, Vini Jr, Rodrygo, Tchouameni. We are very lucky players like Valverde and Rudiger are able to stay fit considering how much they play. And the eternal Modric too. So I do think the injuries have played a big reason to our form.
The 3rd being the loss of Toni Kroos. I don’t really need to talk about how losing 1 of the greatest midfielders would affect a team, a player still in his prime, Barcelona still haven’t recovered from losing Xavi and Iniesta.
The 4th being Mbappe’s arrival and the adjusting period of the players. It was going to take him time to adapt, I think Bellinghams incredible first season at the club has set the standards for new superstars joining the team, but i’m not sure we will see a better debut season for a player again. It is fair to say though Mbappe has been poor, his performance against Barcelona was terrible, he seems to be lacking confidence, he isn’t a natural no.9 so he is having to learn to play as a new type of player. It is too early to say if the experiment will succeed or not. I certainly wasn’t looking forward to Mbappe joining, I’m not his biggest fan. And not having a player like Joselu in the squad could kill us this season.
The 5th and final reason I can see that has not helped us this season is the changing role of Bellingham in the team, last season he was 1 of our most dangerous players, this season I think he has still played very well, he does a great amount of work off the ball, but he hasn’t been as influential in the attack because he’s been moved deeper to accommodate Mbappe,
So yeah, I’m undecided wether I will continue to post as frequently as before, soon I’m off to the Dominican republic, but I will certainly be more active.
Hala Madrid!
